Dichloromethane as an increasing threat to stratospheric ozone

It has been long-stablished that chlorinated gases are big contributors to the depletion of the ozone layer. However, not all of those compounds are controlled by the Montreal protocol. Dichloromethane, especially, have been showed to have a growing impact in recent years, as showed by a recent study using atmospheric model simulations.

As a consequence, depending on location, the stratospheric column ozone is expected to return to pre-1980 still in this century.
