Department of Chemistry at UFSCar announces the 46th Summer School in Chemistry

Organized by the Department of Chemistry (DQ) at UFSCar, the Summer School in Chemistry “Prof. Dr. José Tércio B. Ferreira” (EVQ) is an annual event that will reach its 46th uninterrupted edition in 2026, scheduled to take place from February 23 to 27. Established in 1981, the EVQ has become one of the most relevant academic meetings in Brazil, bringing together students, researchers and professionals for an intensive week of academic and scientific activities. Since it was established more than four decades ago, the event has made a remarkable contribution to the education, professional development and inspiration of successive generations of Brazilian chemists.

In recent editions, the EVQ has strengthened discussions on sustainability, with programs that reinforce the DQ’s commitment to topics related to green chemistry. In 2026, this perspective remains central to the event, and participants will be able to explore different areas of Chemistry and their interfaces with sustainability, technology, innovation and the job market. Throughout the week, the program includes three workshops, four courses and two roundtable discussions, as usual featuring faculty members and researchers from leading institutions in Brazil and abroad. This includes professors from the DQ who are members of CERSusChem, including professor Márcio Weber Paixão and Lucia Helena Mascaro.

Over the years, the expansion of the EVQ’s scope and reach can be clearly observed. What initially began as an academic meeting aimed at Brazilian organic chemists has evolved into an international event that brings together researchers and participants from different regions across the world. In the 1990s, Inorganic Chemistry was incorporated into the program and in 1998 the event was renamed in honor of one of its founders, Prof. Dr. José Tércio B. Ferreira.
