CERSusChem promotes experiment in the 14th edition of the Circus of Science

The CERSusChem participated this year in the 14th edition of the Circus of Science and brought to the public the experiment of water decontamination by electroflocculation. In two days of the event, (between 25 and 27/10) there was an estimated audience of ten thousand people, with a varied age group and attending scholar and the general public.

It is widely known that in a few years there will be a crisis of water accessibility, due to the great waste and pollution problems, therefore, the conscious use of water and knowledge about the forms of water treatments destined for human consumption are important as dissemination to students and the public. Electroflocculation is a simple and efficient alternative to remove pollutants of water and was therefore chosen to be presented to visitors.

It was possible to demonstrate through this experiment that water decontamination can be accomplished by means of a relatively simple and practical technique, using oxidation and reduction reactions to promote the agglutination of the impurities, which were separated from the water more easily from the water by filtration.
