PEF, a polymer from renewable resources, will be recycled along with PEG in Europe

PEF (polyethylene furanoate) is produced from the polycondensation of furandicarboxylic acid and ethylene glycol, chemicals that can be produced from renewable resources. The resulting polymer is a PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and displays superior physicochemical properties, having found several promising applications in industry.

Recently, it was announced by an European commission formed by producers and recyclers the approval for PEF to be recycled in a similar system to that of PET and incorporated to the plastic market in up to 2%.
