Presentation

We work on knowledge dissemination in two main fronts. The first consists of work both with undergrad students and students from middle, high and technical schools, through formal means of education. The second front is to use scientific communication through activities targeting youth, teachers, students and senior citizens by means of informal education.

Criation of an undergraduate course, "Introduction to Green Chemistry", focused on the following topics:

  • Historical evolution of Green Chemistry;
  • The principles of Green Chemistry
  • Case studies focused on the application of Green Chemistry in various sectors such as industrial, academic and basic education;
  • Planning, application and analysis of a project that incorporates the Green Chemistry principles.

"Biocatalysis: Fundamentals and Aspects of Green Chemistry", the competences to be developed are:

  • Gain insight into the potential of enzymes to produce organic molecules;
  • Enzymes selection and (high-throughput) screening strategies;
  • Understanding of chirotechnology and their use especially in the fine chemicals and pharmaceutical industry;
  • Knowledge about the advantages and disadvantages of using bio-renewables in production processes;
  • Ability to judge novel processes, on their merit in terms of sustainability metrics

Regional Chemistry Olympics

  • The Regional Chemistry Olympiad in its 15th edition looks to students from high schools. The chosen theme for this year is Green Chemistry

Chemistry Department - Open doors

  • Guided tour to the Chemistry Department, with a lecture and demonstration of experiments. The lecture looks to advertise the Department of Chemistry and to explain better about the courses that we offer, our research and developed and demonstrated to the public how chemistry is present in everyone's daily life.

USP and the professions

  • Guided tour to the Chemistry Department, with a lecture and demonstration of experiments. The lecture looks to advertise the Department of Chemistry and to explain better about the courses that we offer in USP - Ribeirão Preto.

Interative CEIQ

  • CEIQ's interactive space is focused in exploration of innovative technologies in chemistry education. It works with touchscreen TVs, tablets, interactive games and experiments that students can interact with assistance from our guides, as well as the interactive periodic table, curiosity boxes and other study models.

AVATAR Project

  • Created to the students of Elementary School and consists of a guided tour to the Department of Chemistry where experiments are carried out on basic topics of Chemistry addressed in the science classes, instigating the curiosity and interest of the students.

 Call for the creation of the research center

  • GlaxoSmithKline(GSK), aiming to help develop new materials and methods of sustainable chemistry in Brazil, invested R$15 Million in two cutting edge research centers.

Science Circus

  • In 2016, our dissemination actions had a significant impact during the 13th edition of the Science Circus promoted by the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). The event, held between May 9 and 11, attracted young people from all over the São Carlos region. The presence of the Center of Excellence for Research in Sustainable Chemistry (CERSusChem) demonstrated to the public how chemistry is present in everyone's daily life.

Regional Chemistry Olympiad

  • The 14th edition of the Regional Chemistry Olympiad was inspired on the theme of The Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. During the introduction lecture, students of the event were presented to various aspects of the use of chemistry, among which its use for the development of new materials, water and sewage treatment, medicines, food and dietary supplements. In the lecture given to two thousand students and more than one hundred teachers of elementary and middle school, the main advances in chemistry were highlighted, always emphasizing the principles of a science increasingly concerned with the balance between science, technology, society and the environment

Book Publishing

  • In the year 2016 was published the book "Experimental Organic Chemistry: A Green Chemistry Approach", launched by Elsevier, was included as a textbook in the Organic Experimental undergraduate courses at UFSCar. According to the authors Arlene G. Corrêa, Kleber T. de Oliveira, Márcio W. Paixão and Timothy J. Brocksom from Department of Chemistry - UFSCar, the book describes tested experiments which were planned under the Green Chemistry principles. This textbook is indicated to undergraduate students from chemistry, pharmacy, chemical engineering.
